Famous person from your country

  • For homework, research a famous person from your country who you admire. Actor, sports, politician, activist, humanitarian, musician etc.)
  • In groups of 4, tell us about your famous person. Why are they famous? What are their achievements? What personal qualities made them successful? Why do you admire them?

Ranking Exercise

  • In pairs, think of 5 famous people who you think are the greatest. (politician, leaders, civil right leaders, humanitarians, musicians, actors, writers, scientists, actor etc.)
  • In fours, reduce list to 3 and rank them 1-3.
  • Write top 3 per group on board. Discuss.

Who like to meet?

  • What famous person alive or dead would you most like to meet (or invite to a dinner party)? Why? What would you ask them?
  • Or imagine you can buy 24 hours of a famous person's time. Could be a historical figure or someone living today. What would you do with the person? What would you talk about?

  • What do you think the criteria should be for being famous?
  • If you could be famous, what would you like to be famous for?
  • How is a hero different from a celebrity?
  • Do you follow the lives of celebrities through magazines and TV?
  • Who is your favourite celebrity? If you could marry a celebrity, who would you most like to marry?
  • Who do you think is the most overrated celebrity alive today?
  • Do you think celebrities have a right to keep their family and personal lives private?
  • If you could be a famous film star, pop star, painter, writer, sports star or political leader, which could you choose to be and why?
  • Would you like to be famous? Why or why not?

Celebrity Dinner Party

  • Give list of celebrities, alive and dead (mix actors, scientists, politicians, pop stars, writers etc.)
  • You have won a prize to have a celebrity dinner party. Each can invite 4.
  • In pairs, research list - find out why famous, what achieved.
  • Decide on 4 each to invite to dinner party. Decide who sit together. Seating plan is round.
  • Also, plan menu for evening.
  • Pairs pair up with other pairs and discuss their choices.
  • Answer where you would sit. And what questions you'd ask.
